I love the Fourth of July! We went as a family with Paige and Chris and Sam to Lake Waconia to see fireworks saturday night. It was perfect! The lake was full of boats with their lights on low, the fireworks reflecting off the lake and falling out of the sky. It looked as if they were hitting the water. Put me on a lake and I am Happy! Doug and I both agreed that summer is our favorite season. Driving back from the lake, it was after 9:00 pm and it was still a little light out. A warm summer breeze and the smell of bonfires...what's not to love! That was saturday night. By sunday Doug and I thought we should try to get some work done around the house.
It does seem that Doug and I always pick some outdoor house project to work on when we should be relaxing. We agreed that next year we WILL be relaxing on the lake for the fourth of July. This last weekend we did get a project done that I thought I could share. Our deck was in need of some serious help!

Doug and I have always wanted to have a black and wood checkered board floor somewhere in our house. For our house here in MN we decided that we would do the deck floor in checkerboard. That seemed like a safe place to start. Doug and Sam worked hard to first get it sanded. Yesterday was the day...we swept, we marked, we painted and we sealed. This was all with the help of the dogs, Willy and Sid. I must say, we are more than proud of our accomplishment and love adding our dream of a checkerboard floor to our home, even if it's just out on the deck.
Next on the list... washing down all the furniture and putting it back. On second thought, maybe it's too pretty to cover up. What do you think?
